I had the opportunity to check out Shakespeare for Children: The Story of Romeo and Juliet. I thought this would be a great introduction into the world of Shakespeare for my 11 year old daughter.Shakespeare's works are as relevant and as inspirational today as they were when audiences first paid a penny to attend his plays. Teachers will tell you it is truly a magical moment when students discover the beauty and messages of his plays.
To make the works of Shakespeare accessible to all ages and levels of education, Cass Foster combines his experience as a Professor Emeritus of Theatre, Fight Choreographer and Stage Director to provide Shakespeare To Teach or not to Teach, Shakespeare for Children, and The Sixty-Minute Shakespeare, a series of six books including Romeo and Juilet, Macbeth, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Much Ado About Nothing, and Twelfth Night. Titles sold individually or as a set.
I wasn't sure what to expect when I saw this, but it was actually a good book! Thanks to 5 Star Publications for introducing this great creation by Cass Foster. It extracts the main message of the Romeo & Juliet story and breaks it down to a kids level quite nicely. My 11 year old read it and gained a pretty good insight into the story. Besides simply reading the book, it has pages the kids can color on (if they so choose... mine did, lol)! It provides a great opportunity for our children to get early exposure to such valuable works in history. This 8.26-inch by 10.75-inch book is a highly condensed, fully illustrated version of the world's greatest and most tragic love story. Cass Foster supplies thought-provoking discussion questions that allows teachers and parents to explore Shakespeare with children from any age or perspective. Then, use the same discussion questions to study other plays from a similar perspective.
